Building a Rustic style Birdhouse from Cedar Pickets - DIY

Watch as Mark builds a bird house from old cedar fence pickets that he is repurposing. Using reclaimed wood he will show you how he made this rustic style birdhouse form cedar pickets. He just had to mark the front and back and all the other cuts are straight easy cuts.

It is an easy build if you can get a hold of the materials. You can always use new material purchased from any hardware store near you.

Tools Needed -

• Wood
• Tape Measure
• Pencil or Marker
• Saw
• Drill
• 1 1/2 hole bit
• Nails for nailer
• Finish nailer (Brad Nailer)

Optional changes you can make to the birdhouse. Once it is finished you can glue around the edges to keep the rain out. You can also add a hinge and latch on the bottom so it easy to clean out.

If you are worried about your feathered friends getting slivers you can sand down the wood around the hole. A smaller hole will keep out larger birds and small animals.

These birdhouses for the outdoors include a wire hanger that is attached to the peak of the sloped roof by 2 eye bolts. It can be hung or mounted in a window or on a pole to keep the squirrels and other predators away from the nest.

The birdhouse is 10" tall, 6-1/2" wide, and 7" deep. The birdhouse roof is sloped so water and snow run off it. There is a 1 1/2 inch opening for small to medium birds. Under the opening there is a 2 1/2 inch perch for the birds to stand on. There are screws on the bottom for easy clean out. Just remove the screws, clean it out and screw it back down.

The wooden outdoor bird houses are made with paintable natural cedar wood. Cedar is naturally bug and rot resistant so the birdhouse will last you a long time. Professionally constructed with finishing nails, screws, and glue this birdhouse is built to last.
